What kind of game is it? A Lagos lifestyle simulator
Lagos Life takes the idea of The Sims and places it in a virtual Lagos. Its creator has said she grew up playing The Sims 3, and the Lagos browser game Lagos Run was another inspiration. There is no fixed story: you decide what to do with the life you are given.
Every new player is randomly placed into one of two starting realities. "Nepo" plays on wealth and connections, while "Lapo" is a joke about microfinance loans and financial struggle, and some characters begin with debt to in-game lenders. From there you look after six needs (hunger, energy, hygiene, bladder, fun and social), work a job, pay rent every week and move around the city.
The city includes recognisable Lagos places such as CcHub in Yaba, Eko Hotels & Suites, New Afrika Shrine, Ikoyi Golf Club, Amala Shitta and Quilox. According to the game's terms, the wider economy can include businesses, property, investments, insurance, transport, virtual taxes, fines and random events, and the developer adjusts prices and salaries over time.
Who made Lagos Life?
Lagos Life is operated by Shalom Rayhamen, a Nigerian software developer who also works under the name Eliy. The game went live on 1 October 2026, Nigeria's Independence Day, and media reports based on the developer's public dashboard say it passed one million players within three days.
